Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise reportedly rejected President Donald Trump’s invitation to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, declining an event while citing “scheduling conflicts.”
The Washington Post, breaking the story, quoted current and former Kennedy Center employees as saying Cruise declined the offer.
His November calendar already includes a high-profile appearance at the Governors Awards, where the A-lister will receive an honorary Oscar.
Trump announced this year’s honorees on Wednesday, including George Strait, KISS, Michael Crawford, Gloria Gaynor and Sylvester Stallone.
The president confirmed he personally vetted the list, rejecting “plenty who were too woke,” and said: “I would say I was about 98 percent involved… they all went through me.”
Before naming the recipients, Trump mused that he might give himself the honor next year: “I waited and waited and waited, and I said, ‘The hell with it, I’ll become chairman and I’ll give myself an honor.'”
The president also claimed the Kennedy Center board had requested he host the ceremony.
Cruise, star of Top Gun and Mission Impossible, has not publicly commented.
