Chipotle’s Latest Effort to Win Over Millennials is Desperate, Even for Chipotle
Well, this is a doozy. Chipotle has been making a gigantic effort to win back customers in the wake of its E. Coli, Norovirus, sexual harassment, and drug scandals. They’ve given away a lot of free food, made a sort of nice short film, and now they’re trying to target millennials by Tweeting polls at them. Only, instead of being fun, their latest effort reeks of desperation and weed.
Yesterday, the brand Tweeted the question, “How many burritos?” There were two answer choices: 69, and 420.
How many burritos?

Aside from the obvious and basic innuendo (69 is a reference to a sex position, and 420 is a pot reference), it’s an odd choice for the brand. Chipotle is in the middle of a sexual harassment lawsuit and one of its execs was arrested over the summer on cocaine charges.
Business Insider called the effort “cringeworthy.” Eater called it a “strange attempt at pandering.” Strange it is. Twitter users agree:
@ChipotleTweets you gotta chill

@ChipotleTweets chipotle has no chill

@ChipotleTweets this is pretty inappropriate. It’s like someone’s Dad trying to be cool

Maybe try the free food thing again?
