WATCH: The National’s Paul Corsentino Shatters Wine Glass Into Scallops During Today Demo

…And that’s why we don’t drink at 10am on the job. But, of course, Kathy Lee and Hoda notoriously do, and they can typically convince their guests to join along with them on the occasional Boozeday Tuesday or Thirsty Thursday or, in this case, …Friday.

Paul Corsentino, executive chef of Geoffrey Zakarian’s NYC resto The National, stopped by The Today Show during Fourth Hour (a.k.a. drunk o’clock), and he knew better than to show up for a cooking segment empty-handed. He brought along “a little sip,” as Hoda called it, of White Burgundy, which Kathy Lee eagerly described as, “One of the best wines in the world!”

We’re pretty sure she says that about margaritas, too, though, so, you know, grain of salt.

Anyway, as Paul was presenting and sipping the “100% Chardonnay”, he inadvertently knocked his glass over, shattering it into a plate of raw scallops he was about to sear. Smooth move. Of course, the cackling co-hosts descended upon him, happy to poke fun at someone’s clumsiness other than their own. Poor Paul never really recovered, and, having seen a chef or two react to humiliation in our day, we’re guessing that he was nursing a seriously wounded ego beneath that shy exterior.
