President Donald Trump has imposed a two-week deadline on a decision as to whether the U.S. will strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The news came down on Thursday, a week after the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran began.

“Now, regarding the ongoing situation in Iran, I know there has been a lot speculation amongst all of you in the media regarding the president’s decision-making and whether or not the United states will be directly involved,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters in the briefing room Thursday afternoon.

“In light of that news, I have a message directly from the president,” she continued before reading the statement aloud:

Based on the fact that there is a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision on whether or not to go in the next two weeks.

Trump’s statement came hours after Israel promised to escalate its offensive against Iran after a missile reportedly struck a hospital in the south of the country, an attack that amounts to “war crimes,” according to senior Israeli officials.

The early morning missile strike hit Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, Israeli officials said, leaving several people wounded and seriously damaging upper floors of the facility.

On Wednesday night, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had approved a plan for an attack in Iran, but was waiting to give the official order.
