CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Confronts Trump About MAGA Being Split on Iran: ‘Dividing a Lot of Your Supporters’

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins cited the blockbuster interview between Tucker Carlson and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to ask President Donald Trump if he’s concerned the conflict in Iran is dividing his base.

Carlson, on Wednesday, released a lengthy sit-down interview with the Texas senator. In it, the two threw down on a number of key issues concerning the MAGA base — most notably, the Iran-Israel conflict. While Carlson has been critical of Trump’s pro-war stance in the region, Cruz repeatedly justified the U.S. potentially getting involved.

During an Oval Office press engagement Wednesday afternoon, Collins quizzed Trump on whether the issue is splitting his core support group.

“Have you seen the Tucker Carlson and Senator Ted Cruz interview?” Collins asked. “It seems like this issue on whether or not the United States should strike is kind of dividing a lot of your supporters.”

“No, my supporters are for me,” Trump replied. “My supporters are America first, they make America great again. My supporters don’t want to see Iran have a nuclear weapon.”

The president went on to confirm what Carlson had made public during the interview — that Trump recently spoke with the former Fox News host. Trump made clear that Carlson had reached out to deliver a mea cupla.

“Tucker’s a nice guy,” Trump said. “He called and apologized the other day because he thought he said things that were a little bit too strong, and I appreciated that.”

Trump went on to claim his position on the conflict is more popular than many believe.

“Very simple, if they think that it’s okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon, then they should oppose me,” Trump said. “But nobody thinks it’s OK.”
