Democrats Rally Behind MAGA Star Charlie Kirk After Shooting: ‘Political Violence Is NEVER Acceptable!’

Most Democrats are far from the biggest fans of MAGA star Charlie Kirk, but many were quick to take to social media on Wednesday to offer prayers for Kirk and condemn the Utah shooting.

Kirk was speaking on Wednesday for approximately 30 minutes at the Utah Valley University when a shot rang out. According to video and eyewitnesses, Kirk was struck in the neck. Friend and former congressman Jason Chaffetz, who was in attendance, said Kirk was shot while he was discussing “transgender shooters.”

“The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible,” California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) took to social media to post.

Kirk was a recent guest on Newsom’s podcast.

Other lawmakers like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) also condemned the act of violence.

“Political violence is NEVER acceptable,” he wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with Charlie Kirk and his family.”

Gun control advocate David Hogg and others also showed support for Kirk.

“Horrifying news that Charlie Kirk has been shot. Gun violence and political violence have to fucking stop. Charlie, his family, and all the students who had to witness the shooting are in my thoughts. We have disagreements, but we all agree something has to change,” Hogg wrote in an X post.

And here are some other notable reactions:

The Utah stop on Monday was part of a launch of what Kirk called an American Comeback tour. He posted to X just minutes before being shot. That post has since been deleted.
