Drudge Report Resurfaces 12-Year-Old Trump Tweet: Will Putin ‘Become My New Best Friend?’

The Drudge Report resurrected a 12-year-old tweet by President Donald Trump asking whether Vladimir Putin ‘will become my new best friend’ as the commander in chief works to secure a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
“TRUMP WANTED PUTIN AS ‘BEST FRIEND'” the top-of-site headline read — linking to a June 18, 2013 social media post from then-private citizen Trump.
“Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow – if so, will he become my new best friend?” Trump says in the post on X, known as Twitter at the time.
Trump is fresh off a White House summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, his latest effort for Russia and Ukraine to lay down their arms.
Ahead of that meeting, a hot microphone picked up Trump’s comments to a fellow world leader that “Putin wants to make a deal with me.”
“I don’t understand that, as crazy as it sounds,” Trump is heard saying.
The president separately met with Putin in Alaska on Friday.
