Ex-Biden Spox Rips Trump for ‘Pumping Cyanide’ Into ‘Strongest Economy in the World’

Ex-Biden White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates ripped President Donald Trump, telling NBC’s Kristen Welker that Trump “pumped cyanide” into the “strongest, best-performing” economy he inherited from former President Joe Biden.

As Trump’s second term approaches the 100-day mark, a raft of brutal new polls show his approval cratering — especially on the economy.

On Thursday’s edition of NBC’s Meet The Press NOW, Welker asked Bates if Democrats need to arrive at a “streamlined message” in opposition to Trump.

Bates told Welker the message is simple — Trump poisoned “the strongest, best performing economy in the world”:

KRISTEN WELKER: Let’s look at another poll we discussed at the top of the program. He does get high marks on his handling of border. That’s another one of his top issues.

Andrew, you see it plus 15 percent, and then again, there on the economy. Negative 18 on the economy broadly. Negative 25 on tariffs. Negative 26.

And yet, as Susan points out in the top her remarks, Democrats haven’t really figured out what their streamlined message should be.

Is there a timeline by which Democrats really need to start singing from the same songbook?

ANDREW BATES: I think the most important thing that we can do is hold him accountable for taking the strongest, best performing economy in the world and then pumping it full of cyanide.

By every measure, the economy that he inherited is worse now. And people know that that is his biggest weakness. It’s why he’s desperate to talk about anything else.

And so I think that Democrats have to make sure we are again listening to people, they’re being clear that their top priority is those costs that are going up.

And he’s been clear that he wants to use the revenue from his tariff taxes, which is the biggest tax hike on the middle class in modern history, so he can cut taxes for billionaires.
