Fox News Contributor Praises Hillary Clinton As ‘A Paragon of Clarity’ on Israel

It’s not everyday that a Republican praises former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Fox News, but that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday afternoon.

During The Story with Martha MacCallum, the Fox host continued the network’s coverage of the pro-Israel rally in Washington, D.C. with a few panelists. One of them was Democratic political consultant Philippe Reines, a former advisor to Clinton, and another was Marc Thiessen, a former speechwriter for former President George W. Bush.

After hearing from Reines and then human rights activist and lawyer Brooke Goldstein, MacCallum asked Thiessen about the rise of anti-Semitism in the United States and abroad during the Israel-Hamas War. But first, Thiessen wanted to say hi to his buddy Philippe:

… And it’s great to be back on with my old friend and sparring partner, Philippe. And let me say that Hillary Clinton has been a paragon of clarity on this issue. She’s been wonderful in speaking out against Hamas and for, against ceasefires and all the rest of it.

Much of the discussion was about the bipartisan presence at the rally, but as partisans are wont to do, Thiessen did point to the “elite” anti-Semitism on the far-left of the Democratic party after writing off the far-right’s anti-Semitism as a “fringe phenomenon”:

But I think one of the problems we have is, look, there’s there’s anti-Semitism across the political spectrum on the right and the left, but anti-Semitism on the right and anti-Semitism on the left are very different. Anti-Semitism on the right is a fringe phenomenon. Philippe mentioned the Charlottesville rally where people were chanting, “Jews will not replace us.” Those were neo-Nazis. You don’t, you don’t see neo-Nazis marching at Harvard, right? The antisemitism we’re seeing right now on the left is an elite phenomenon. It’s happening in, on college campuses. It’s some of our most elite universities.

Thiessen also noted the anti-Semitic rhetoric of Democrats in Congress, namely Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), saying, “they’ve been tolerated in the Democratic caucus for for too long.”

But even that said, Thiessen was pretty diplomatic about the failings of those on his own side of the political spectrum while criticizing the other side: “I do my best as a commentator to police it on the right, to speak out against people when they say these things. … [W]e’ve all got to police our movements, and the left really needs to start policing theirs.”
