Fox’s Peter Doocy Flatly Asks Nat Sec Advisor Who Is to Blame for Ukraine-Russian War: Zelensky or Putin?

It’s the simplest of questions, and yet it seems like a difficult question to ask the Trump administration: Who is most responsible for the Russian-Ukraine War?

Thankfully, Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy challenged the Trump administration, in particular, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, in light of recent comments made by President Donald Trump that many — even strong Trump supporters — have said are parroting Russian talking points.

During the campaign, Trump alleged that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is at fault for the Russians. However, the only real culprit in this deadly conflict is Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the illegal invasion and directed what international tribunals labeled as “war crimes.

Trump re-upped these asides more recently during a Mar-a-Lago press event, the first time he’s said as much as president, then followed up with an aggressive social media post in which he blasted the Ukrainian president as a Dictator — again, a controversial claim that is rooted in Putin’s self-serving rhetoric.

After the president’s post on social yesterday. I need to know — who does he think is more responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine? Putin or Zelensky?” Doocy flatly asked.

For Waltz’s part, he returned to his talking points about how the war needs to end, pressing Ukraine to sign on to an agreement that is very lucrative for the US and blasted critics of Trump’s bizarre rhetoric. What he failed to do, however, is answer the question asked. He completely stonewalled Doocy’s very simple, tough, but fair question and instead just prattled on about the same stuff he’s said on multiple Fox News hits in the past days:

Well, look, his goal here is to bring this war to an end, period. And there has been ongoing fighting on both sides. It is World War one style trench warfare. His frustration with President Selenski is that you’ve heard is multifold one. There needs to be a deep appreciation for what the American people, what the American taxpayer, what President Trump did in his first term and what we’ve done since. So some of the rhetoric coming out of Kiev, frankly, and and insults to President Trump are unacceptable. Number one.

Number two, our own secretary of treasury personally made the trip to offer the Ukrainians what is can only be described as a historic opportunity. That is for America to co-invest with Ukraine in their minerals and their resources to truly grow the pie. So case in point, there is a foundry that processes aluminum in Ukraine. It’s it’s been damaged. It’s not at its current capacity. If that is restored, it would account for America’s entire imports of aluminum for an entire year, that one foundry. There are tremendous resources there. Not only is that long term security for Ukraine, not only do we help them grow the pie with investments, but, you know, we do have an obligation to the American taxpayer and helping them recoup the hundreds of billions that that have occurred.

So, you know, rather than enter into some constructive conversations about what that deal should be going forward, we got a lot of rhetoric in the media that was that was incredibly unfortunate. And I could just tell you, Peter, you know, as a veteran, as somebody who’s been in combat, this war is horrific. And I think we’ve lost sight of that of the literally thousands of people that are dying a day, families that are going without the next generation. And I find it kind of, you know, frankly, ridiculous.

So many people in Washington that were just demanding, pounding the table for a cease fire in Gaza are suddenly aghast that the president would demand one. And both sides come to the table when it talks to when it comes to Ukraine, a war that has been arguably far greater and in scope and scale and far more dangerous in terms of global escalation to U.S. security.
