Leaked Video: Kamala Harris Gives Trump-Era Warning, Jokes About Being ‘Unemployed’ In Private Speech
Former Vice President Kamala Harris warned about rising fascism in the Trump era during a private event that was closed to the press.
Earlier this month, VP Harris gave her first major speech since being defeated by Trump in a narrow but decisive election that saw neither candidate achieve a majority of the popular vote.
In another rare appearance, the former VP appeared Sunday at the 2025 Australian Real Estate Conference (AREC 2025) during which she delivered remarks and sat for an extended Q&A.
While the event was closed to the press and not televised, a plethora of clips from the session were leaked online by attendees.
One of the more provocative exchanges featured an apparent shot at President Donald Trump in which Harris drew historical parallels with the 1930s:
VP KAMALA HARRIS: I do worry frankly about what’s happening right now in our world. I do worry that it is important that we remember history.
It’s important we remember the 1930s. It’s important that we remember that history has taught us that isolation does not equal insulation.
It is important that we understand and remember history which taught us the interdependence and interconnection between nations. History that has taught us the importance of relationships of trust, the importance of friendships, Integrity, honesty.
In another moment that went viral and was seized on by critics, Harris cracked, “I am unemployed right now!” when the moderator told her, “Your best work is ahead of you.”
Harris also spoke about the challenge of achieving home ownership:
I’ve been paying a lot of attention to Gen Z and … among the challenges that they face greater than any previous generation is the dream of home ownership – is one of the greatest challenges they face.
Governments need to work much more closely with the private sector to be clear about what the incentives are, as well as the disincentives, to build more housing.
We have to solve this problem, but it is going to take governments working with the private sector.
