Maxwell Told DOJ She Never Saw Trump in ‘An Inappropriate Setting’ With Jeffrey Epstein
Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell told a top Department of Justice official that she never saw Donald Trump in an “inappropriate setting” in relation to his friend, accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in 2019.
On Friday, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche released two days of prison recordings with Maxwell, during which he asked her about her recollections of Trump in relation to Epstein.
Maxwell is heard on the recording saying, “I never saw the president in any type of massage setting. I never witnessed the president in any inappropriate setting. The president was never inappropriate with anybody in the times I was with him. He was a gentleman in all respects.”
Maxwell also said she didn’t know how Trump and Epstein met or became friends.
“I certainly saw them together, and I remember the few times I observed them together, but they were friendly. I mean, they seemed friendly,” she said.
Maxwell was convicted on five out of six counts in 2021 and sentenced on three of those charges to 20 years in federal prison. She has offered to testify before Congress about the Epstein scandal if granted a pardon. Trump has not indicated whether he plans to pardon Maxwell.
However, after speaking with Blanche, Maxwell was transferred from a Florida prison to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas, which outraged victims and their families. Democrats and other critics of Trump quickly accused the DOJ of setting up a possible quid pro quo in which Maxwell exonerates or distances Trump from Epstein in exchange for a pardon or better treatment.
Trump had promised to release the full breadth of information on Epstein’s death and alleged “client list” if he was voted back into office in 2024. Some MAGA faithful fell out with the president after the DOJ stalled on releasing any information, and Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed there was no Epstein list — despite having previously said it was on her desk.
In addition, FBI Director Kash Patel and his deputy, Dan Bongino — who pedaled conspiracy theories about the Epstein case before the election — now claim that Epstein was not murdered. This angered Trump supporters and members of Congress alike, who demanded transparency.
In the past month, new photos of Trump and Epstein have surfaced, as has a bawdy birthday card in which Trump wrote, “We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.” Trump is suing The Wall Street Journal for publishing details about the card.
