Netanyahu Tells Trump He’s Nominated for Israel Prize While Scoffing at ‘That Other Prize’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday during his speech to the Knesset, celebrating the release of hostages held by Hamas, that he has nominated President Donald Trump for the Israel Prize – scoffing at the Nobel Peace Prize as “that other prize,” which he joked the president would be given in “time.”

The Nobel Peace Prize was given to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado on Friday. Although Machado dedicated her award to the president, many within MAGA and in Israel had hoped Trump would be given the award for his brokered deal between Hamas and Israel, ending the two-year war and securing the release of hostages held for 737 days.

Addressing the Knesset, while Trump sat beside him, Netanyahu paid tribute to the president as Israel’s “best friend” and hailed the peace deal as a breakthrough when he gave nod to the nomination for the nation’s highest domestic award.

“Mr. President, thank you for all you have done for us. I have submitted your nomination to be the first non-Israeli recipient of the Israel Prize, Israel’s highest award,” the prime minister announced.

Rounding on the Nobel Peace Prize, he quipped: “As to that other prize, it’s just a question of time. You’ll get it.”

He continued: “But I want you to get the Israel Prize, our highest award to our greatest friend.”

Lawmakers applauded in response.

Netanyahu added, “When others were weak, you were strong. When others were fearful, you were bold. When others abandoned us, you stood by our side. On behalf of the government and people of Israel, I thank you for your extraordinary friendship. Thank you for helping bring our hostages home. Thank you for supporting Israel’s march to victory. Thank you for paving a path to peace.”
