NEW POLL: Just 4% of Americans Support Russia in War With Ukraine — But 44% Don’t Back Ukraine Either

New polling shows Americans overwhelmingly do not support Russia in their war against Ukraine — amid recent words and actions from President Donald Trump which have been lauded by Russian State TV. But despite overwhelming opposition to Russia, many Americans also do not support Ukraine in the conflict.
According to a new poll from CBS News out Sunday, just 4 percent of Americans say they support Russia in the war with Ukraine. But only a slender majority say they back Ukraine — with only 52 percent of respondents telling CBS they support Ukraine in the conflict. A whopping 44 percent support “neither” Russia or Ukraine.
The poll, notably, was taken from Feb. 26-28 — which means it was mostly conducted prior to Friday’s chaotic Oval Office meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Still, the poll finds a small majority of Americans stand with Trump on the conflict. According to the poll, 51 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, compared to 49 percent who do not approve.
A plurality of poll respondents believe Trump has leaned towards Russia in the conflict— with 46 percent telling CBS News pollsters that Trump’s “actions and statements” have favored Russia, compared to 43 percent who think Trump has treated both sides equally. Just 10 percent think Trump has sided with Ukraine.
While a majority of Republicans have negative views on Russia (32 percent regard them as “unfriendly,” and 27 percent consider them an “enemy”), a high percentage of the Right sees Russia in a more positive light. The poll found 41 percent of Republicans consider Russia an “ally” or “friendly” to the United States.
