Newsmax Host Floats Bizarre Theory That Trump Is Secretly Working With Elon Musk to ‘Tank His Own Bill’: ‘4D Chess!’
A Newsmax host floated a wild theory that President Donald Trump is secretly working with Elon Musk to sabotage his own budget bill.
In a monologue on Wednesday’s edition of Carl Higbie Frontline, Newsmax host Carl Higbie suggested that despite the fact Musk has been railing against Trump’s signature legislation, the president is not actually upset with the Tesla boss, but is looking to destroy the bill on which he’s staked a ton of political capital.
“I think Trump might be working in tandem with Elon here to tank his own bill in a 4D chess move!” Higbie said. “Just a theory. My reasoning? I mean, how many people in the history of ever — like Trump’s entire political career of the last decade — have come out against something Trump wants, and when has Trump just not gone off and completely obliterated them on a global scale?”
Higbie cited Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) as two foes who Trump immediately attacked as soon as they crossed him. Of course, Trump was nowhere near as tightly-aligned with either of those two as he was with Musk — who was a constant presence at the White House in the first few months of his term. The president also repeatedly accused the media of trying to drive a wedge between him and Musk and insisted those efforts would prove futile. So among many other complications, Trump publicly going after Musk would require him to eat quite a bit of crow — something he seldom does.
The Newsmax host, though, came up with a reason why Trump would be willing to do it.
“So why hasn’t Trump said anything negative about Elon?” Higbie said. He added, “Maybe Trump is also reading the country that’s not thrilled about massive deficits that this creates and saying, ‘Ooh, maybe I shouldn’t have settled for what the Congress gave me. So let’s put Congress in the hot seat and force it back to the drawing board.'”
“Is it crazy to think?” Higbie wondered.
