Former President Donald Trump endorsed a Republican congressional candidate just days after saying his opponent is “going to be a Congressman very shortly.”
On Wednesday, Trump posted to Truth Social that he is giving his “Complete and Total Endorsement” to Addison McDowell (R-NC) for North Carolina’s sixth congressional district.
“Addison McDowell just announced he is running for North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District,” Trump posted. “Addison previously worked for Senator Ted Budd and Congressman Richard Hudson, two outstanding leaders from the Great State of North Carolina. He and his family are fierce advocates for our America First movement. In Congress, Addison will work hard to Secure the Border, Defend the Second Amendment, Lower your Taxes, Grow our Economy, and Strengthen the Military. Addison McDowell will be a great Congressman, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement!
The move appeared to represent an about-face because on Saturday, Trump had kind words for Bo Hines at the New York Young Republicans Gala.
Hines had even posted the video of Trump’s shoutout to social media with “Make America GREAT Again!” as the header.
“Bo Hines, he’s going to be a congressman very shortly,” Trump said. “Bo Hines, thank you!”
