‘So Terrible!’ Trump Says He Wants to See Pakistan and India ‘Stop Now’
President Donald Trump on Wednesday called the conflict between Pakistan and Indian “terrible” and said that he wants to see it end as soon as possible.
The day before, India launched an attack on Pakistan in response to a terror attack last month. The attack, which occurred in the Indian-administered Kashmir region, killed 26 tourists. Twenty-five of those killed were Indian.
Pakistani officials vowed that they would retaliate — marking a major escalation that could lead to war between two of the world’s nuclear powers.
After swearing in David Purdue as the country’s ambassador to China, Trump took questions from the press in the White House. When asked about the conflict going on in South Asia, the president said:
My position is I get along with both. I know both very well, and I want to see them work it out. I want to see them stop, and hopefully they can stop now. They’ve gone tit-for-tat, so hopefully they can stop now; but I know both. We get along with both the countries very well — good relationships with both — and I want to see it stop. And if I can do anything to help, I will be there.
