Taylor Lorenz melted down over Pete Buttigieg arguing that Democrats should have worked to open schools faster during the Covid-19 pandemic on Tuesday night, arguing that the ex-transportation secretary had embraced “far right eugenics.”
In a recent interview with The Bulwark’s Tim Miller, Buttigieg was asked what kind of advice his current self would give to himself at the outset of the 2020 general election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
“For the love of God, figure out a way to get the schools open sooner,” answered Buttigieg immediately. “We got very knee-jerk about this and the costs were not just politically, but in a profound way, I think for a generation, the costs were profound.”
“And I think anybody who was involved, who was, by the way, obviously doing their best to deal with the crisis that killed a million Americans, but I think most people involved would like to be able to have found a way to safely get more schools more open, more quickly,” he added before also talking about the border and inflation.
While Miller was impressed by Buttigieg’s observations about Covid and school closures, calling it a “great first answer,” Lorenz was not.
“Pete saying he would have ‘opened the schools sooner’ in 2020 aka killing MORE vulnerable ppl faster, sacrificing teachers and educators (and kids!) lives to force them back into unventilated buildings w no protections,” wrote the New York Times and Washington Post alum in a post on X. “Disgusting how Dems have fully embraced far right eugenics.”
Despite her professed horror at the thought of anyone dying needlessly, Lorenz recently celebrated Biden’s cancer diagnosis, replying “Hopefully he rots in hell and rests in piss” to one fan of the ex-president.
She had previously raised eyebrows by rejoicing over the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last December.
