‘That’s Just Cheap, Cheap Garbage’: DeSantis Sneers Dismissively At Haley After She Bashes Him Over Israel

At the CNN GOP Debate on Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis derisively dismissed a criticism from former ambassador Nikki Haley as the two argued who is the bigger and more genuine supporter of Israel in its war with Hamas.

At CNN’s Republican Presidential Primary Debate on Wednesday night, which featured only DeSantis and Haley on the stage and was moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, the two candidates traded barbs and insults a number of times.

On the topic of Israel and its war against Hamas in Gaza, both Republicans touted their own support while attacking the other as being less supportive, insincere, or opportunistic.

It got particularly snippy when Haley brought up Rep. Thomas Massie.

“It’s really rich that Ron is going to act like he suddenly cares for Israel when he brought the person to Iowa that’s the most anti-Israel Republican in the state,” she said. “The person that went and voted against Israel’s right to exist in Congress, the person that voted with the Squad against anti-Semitism on college campuses.”

As Tapper interjected “thank you, governor” several times, Haley continued to wrap up her point, saying, ” And you brought that person to Iowa to go in and campaign with you.”

“That’s your friend,” said Haley. “I’d hate to see who the rest of your friends are.”

“Governor DeSantis, she’s obviously referring to Congressman Tom Massie from Kentucky,” said Tapper.

“Yeah. That’s just cheap, cheap garbage,” said DeSantis waving a hand dismissively at Haley.

He went on to tout his move to bring home 700 Americans from Israel, which the media has unsuccessfully tried to divest him of credit for doing, and then added, “You got to step up and you got to lead when things like this are happening.”
