‘This Is So Dishonest’: Dan Abrams Systematically Dismantles Tulsi Gabbard’s Alleged Obama Scandal
Mediaite founder Dan Abrams systematically dismantled Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s bombastic new allegations against former President Barack Obama and officials in his administration. Abrams explained on his eponymous YouTube show why Gabbard’s accusation that Obama was behind a treasonous conspiracy regarding the Trump-Russia collusion allegations from 2016 is misleading the “public in a very dangerous way.”
Abrams began his analysis by making clear, “There are a lot of things out there that you can criticize the Biden or the Obama administration about, and I’ve done it many times.”
“This isn’t one of them. This is so dishonest,” he added before explaining Gabbard’s accusations:
So if you are following right-wing media, you would think there is a major scandal going on with regard to the Obama administration and the intel on Russia in 2016, that there has been a new release of documents that potentially could lead to indictments, all right?
So what I’m gonna do is I’m going to actually dig into the article, to the documents and show you why this is so incredibly dishonest. Let’s start with the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who has been leading this, literally accusing Obama of treasonous conspiracy based on what has been released.
Abrams goes on to play clips of Gabbard making the rounds in conservative media, particularly on Fox News and Fox Business, laying out her allegations that Obama somehow laid the groundwork for Trump to be investigated over Russia’s attempts to interfere in the 2016 election as some kind of effort at a “coup.”
“Tulsi Gabbard is calling it seditious conspiracy. She is calling for prosecution. She has made a referral to the Department of Justice. And I’m going to actually dig into what they’re alleging because what they are alleging isn’t just not seditious conspiracy, it’s not even wrongdoing,” Abrams said as he then broke down the various news articles and documents detailing the “nothing burger” allegations.
Key to understanding where Gabbard is misleading the public, according to Abrams, is differentiating between government assessments under the Obama administration that Russia tried to interfere with actual election infrastructure, like voting machines, versus accusations that Russia tried to sway American voters with cyber campaigns that included the release of hacked materials.
Abrams concluded that anyone trying to fully understand the topic must “separate out the allegation of someone hacking into election infrastructure, which no administration official claimed they successfully did, versus efforts by the Russians to leak documents, which they did, DNC stuff, efforts to impact the election by swaying public opinion, which they did.”
“That’s what the allegations were. Don’t get fooled!” Abrams insisted, arguing that Gabbard and her allies are basically accusing the Obama administration of something that never actually happened.
