WATCH: Trump’s Surprising Reaction to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement

President Donald Trump celebrated Taylor Swift’s engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce by calling her a “terrific person” during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday — even though he said he couldn’t stand her earlier this month.

After being told by a reporter that “the world wants your reaction” to the big news, Trump obliged both her and the planet.

“Well, I wish’em a lot of luck,” replied the president. “No, I think it’s-, I think he’s a great player. I think he’s great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump has been highly critical of Swift in the last year. Earlier this month, Trump praised “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican” for her surprisingly controversial American Eagle ad and took the opportunity to take a dig at Swift.

“On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE, advertisement, THAT IS A DISASTER. The CEO just resigned, the company is in turmoil. Shouldn’t they have learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short but very Woke campaign, the Company. The market cap destruction has been unprecedented, BILLIONS OF DOLLARS LOST. Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her,” wrote Trump at the time.

In other posts fired off this year, Trump mocked Swift for being booed at the Super Bowl in February, and asked if anyone had “noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT’?”

Swift endorsed Trump’s general election opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris, for president last September.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” explained Swift in a post on Instagram. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Days later, Trump declared “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
