Trump Election Lie Gets Edited Out Of Don Jr. Newsmax Interview Amid Bombshell Lawsuit
Donald Trump Jr.’s lie about President Donald Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election was edited out of a Newsmax interview as the outlet faces a major lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems — and has already settled a suit with Smartmatic for $40 million.
Trump has spent years falsely claiming the 2020 election was “rigged” against him, and part of the fallout from those lies was a series of lawsuits from Dominion, a voting tech company at the center of election conspiracy theories. Dominion sued several news outlets and Trump boosters over those theories, and Fox News agreed to a settlement that included a $787.5 million payout just before the suit was about to play out in a weeks-long trial after volumes of damaging revelations were publicized pre-trial.
But Newsmax still faces a $1.6 billion suit from Dominion that is coming to a head. Judge Eric M. Davis ruled earlier this year that the statements for which Dominion is suing “are per se defamatory,” leaving only the issue of damages to a jury.
A spokesman has defended the company in a statement to multiple outlets that reads: “Newsmax covered both sides of the 2020 election dispute fairly. At no time did it defame Dominion. This case represents a serious threat to free speech and a free press and Newsmax will defend itself vigorously at trial.”
On Tuesday’s edition of Newsmax’s Wake Up America, former Trump White House official-turned-Newsmax co-host Marc Lotter interviewed Don Jr. and elicited a brazenly false claim about the 2020 election. In a version of the interview uploaded to Newsmax’s YouTube, the claim was edited out:
MARC LOTTER: They used to run on ideas. May not have agreed with them, but they had ideas. For the last 10 years, because of your father’s escalator ride, they’ve just run on one thing: anti-Trump.
DONALD TRUMP JR.: Correct. And I think that’s sort of interesting.
I don’t think anyone with an IQ above about three doesn’t think that we won the 2020 election now. They get that.
But I think the Democrats also did us such a huge service playing that game. All they had to do was shut up, let them have it.
We now have a team that is sort of battle tested. They had four years of hell. We know who the guys that are the real warriors.
The Youtube version contains an undetectable stealth cut that omits the two sentences in question and the two-shot when Don Jr. says “Correct”:
