Trump Gushes Over ‘True Legend’ Sylvester Stallone for 5 Minutes While Announcing Kennedy Center Honorees
Rocky hasn’t been celebrated like this since he knocked out Ivan Drago.
President Donald Trump spent five whole minutes raving over Sylvester Stallone as he announced the action star was among this year’s Kennedy Center honorees on Wednesday.
“Next, we look forward to honoring three-time Oscar nominee, Golden Globe award winner and action movie icon and a friend of mine. Very unique man. He’s somebody that doesn’t do these things,” began Trump. “I said I wonder if he will accept? Because some people don’t really want to be honored. They don’t care. But he was very honored to be honored, I will tell you. He’s a very special guy. A real talent. Never have been given credit for the talent. There was nobody else could have done like he did. They tried and it didn’t work out too well. His name is Sylvester Stallone. So it’s very few, almost, if any, people that could have taken a name and made it so incredible like Rocky, Rambo, Creed, and others.”
Trump then rambled on about the history of Stallone’s rags-to-riches experience on Rocky, with some inaccuracies — including that Stallone was reluctant to play the titular role (Stallone has done numerous interviews over the past several decades in which he says he wrote the character with himself in mind).
The president also praised Stallone as “a pillar of the American pop culture” and “one of the biggest names on the Hollywood Walk of Fame” — next to himself.
“The only one that is a bigger name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a guy named Donald Trump. I’m on the Hollywood walk of fame, too, if you can believe that one,” submitted the president.

He concluded: “He’s amazing. He’s really amazing, and he’s a great actor.”
Stallone and Trump have been friends for years. The Rambo star was nominated earlier this year as a “special ambassador” to Hollywood.
Trump also announced that he will be hosting the Kennedy Center Honors later this year after largely staying away from the ceremony during his prior presidential term.
Other honorees included musician George Strait, original “Phantom of the Opera” Michael Crawford, singer Gloria Gaynor, and the rock band KISS.
