Tucker Carlson Denies Trump Claim That He Called the President to Apologize
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson directly denied President Donald Trump’s claim that Carlson called Trump to apologize to him last month.
Carlson’s comments came during a recent interview with Paul Ronzheimer, the deputy editor-in-chief of the German newspaper Bild.
“Trump said you apologized to him on the phone. Is that true?” asked Ronzheimer during the interview.
The journalist was referring to remarks Trump made in the Oval Office on June 18 about Carlson’s criticism of the Trump administration’s support for Israel’s airstrikes on Iran. Trump would later go on to order strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities against Carlson’s urging.
“Tucker is a nice guy,” mused Trump at the time. “He called and apologized the other day because he thought he said things that were a little bit too strong, and I appreciated that.”
But during his conversation with Ronzheimer, Carlson all but called the commander-in-chief a liar. Here’s how their exchange went:
RONZHEIMER: Trump said you apologized to him on the phone. Is that true?
CARLSON: Okay, no.
RONZHEIMER: No? It’s not true?
CARLSON: No, I will say this. I mean, I don’t-, yeah, great. I don’t care. I really like Trump. I campaigned for Trump. I just, to say it again, I agree with Trump, I have agreed with Trump on the issues. I don’t-, I’d be happy, I am the first to apologize because I am most mindful of my limits, and my own absurdities, and the nonsense that I have spouted over the years. Like, I don’t think I’m God, And so I’m happy to apologize. And you can ask anyone who knows me, I’m an apologizer.
RONZHEIMER: So you’re apologizing now, publicly? Do I understand right?
CARLSON: I don’t know what I’d apologize for. I didn’t attack Trump then. I disagreed with him and I, you know, I said how. I wasn’t-, you know, I didn’t say I don’t think, anything that would warrant an apology.
