Watch GOP Members of Congress Chased Down By CNN’s Manu Raju Squirm and Flee When Asked: What if Trump is Convicted?
Congressional Republicans, chased down by CNN’s Manu Raju, seemed reluctant to answer the question: What if former President Donald Trump is convicted?
In a package that aired on CNN’s Inside Politics Sunday, Raju put that question to four Republican members of Congress — and only one appeared particularly eager to respond.
“Is his opponent still Joe Biden?” said Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), with an awkward laugh. “Yes, I would absolutely support him.”
“Even if he’s convicted?” Raju asked.
“Even if he’s convicted,” Cramer said.
Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) said the particulars of a Trump conviction would factor into his decision about whether to support the former president.
“Facts matter,” Johnson said. “I think you need to look at — what are the charges? If he’s convicted, what was he convicted of? I think these things matter.”
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) tried to flee from Raju while giving him a wishy-washy answer.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” Cornyn said.
But despite being met with reluctance from others, one senator questioned by Raju seemed more than eager to respond.
“Totally trumped up charges,” said Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO)
