WATCH: Trump Sworn in as 47th President of the United States
On Monday, President-elect Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, becoming the second U.S. president to serve two non-consecutive terms in office. President Trump’s inauguration took place inside the U.S. Capitol’s Rotunda after the ceremony was moved inside due to cold weather.
Trump took the oath of office as administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. Vice President JD Vance was sworn in just minutes before Trump. Outgoing President Joe Biden pardoned members of his family in the very last minutes of his time in office. Biden cited threats against some of those closest to him when announcing the pardons.
“That is why I am exercising my power under the Constitution to pardon James B. Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John T. Owens, and Francis W. Biden,” Biden’s statement said. “The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that they engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense.”
Trump will deliver his inaugural address immediately after taking his oath of office.
“I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success. A tide of change is sweeping the country,” Trump is expected by say, according to close aides.
Trump is also set to sign a sweeping set of executive orders aimed at immigration reform and rolling back climate regulation, among many other issues.
