‘We’ll Flood the Zone in Sanctuary Cities’: Tom Homan Dismisses Mamdani’s Vow Not to Cooperate With ICE

Border czar Tom Homan doubled down on his plan to target sanctuary cities in spite of Zohran Mamdani’s promise not to cooperate with President Donald Trump’s administration.

Mamdani, the top candidate in New York City’s mayoral race, has repeatedly gone after the Trump administration for its crackdown on illegal immigration. Trump recently announced his intention to specifically target the (largely Democratic) major cities defying his immigration agenda. Throughout his campaign, Mamdani has vowed to fight the deportation of New York’s immigrant population by refusing to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

On Monday morning, Homan made it clear that the Trump administration will follow through with its plan with or without Mamdani’s cooperation.

“We’re going to be in New York City,” Homan told the press. “And President Trump said it two weeks ago. We’re going to double down, triple down, in sanctuary cities. Why? Not because they’re a blue city or blue state, because we know that’s where the problem is. We know they’re releasing public safety threats and national security threats to the streets every day because they don’t honor our detainers. We know that. We don’t have that problem like in Florida, where every sheriff in the state’s working with us. So where are we gonna send our assets? We’re gonna send them where the problem is — sanctuary cities.”

“I’ve said it before. We’ll flood the zone in sanctuary cities,” he continued. “If they don’t let us arrest the bad guy in the county jail, they’re gonna arrest them in the community, we’re gonna arrest them at the work site. So we’re gonna increase community operation. We’re gonna increase worksite enforcement operations. We’re gonna get the bad guys. So if they don’t want to help, get out of the way. We’re coming to do it.”
