‘We’re Gonna Try Things On Groceries!’ Elizabeth Warren and Mamdani Vow to ‘Experiment’ On Price Controls
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) had strong words of support for New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani on Monday — telling reporters that Mamdani’s ideas represent what she believes “the Democratic message” should be.
Warren joined Mamdani at an event to discuss the candidate’s proposal for universal childcare at the District Council 37 union headquarters in downtown Manhattan. During a question and answer period after the forum, Warren staunchly defended Mamdani’s policies.
“When someone stands up and says ‘I will lead this city by making it more affordable and here are my plans’– real plans, plans to deliver on childcare, plans to deliver on housing, plans to deliver. We’re going to experiment. We’re going to try things on groceries. That is the Democratic message.”
When asked whether Mamdani’s ideology “is what the party should look like,” Warren replied: “Yes. You bet.”
“The Democratic Party needs to stand up and be clear. We are the party that fights for affordability for working families,” she said. “That means childcare. That means housing. It means healthcare. It means making this country work better for the working people who make this country work.”
Warren similarly defended the mayoral candidate on CNBC earlier Monday morning.
“What Zohran is saying is, I want people to be able to afford to live in New York city,” Warren said to host David Faber. “That’s what keeps it a vibrant city.”
“Nobody disagrees with that, Senator,” said Faber. “But raising taxes in order to do it?! Why is that the answer?”
“Oh dear, are you worried that billionaires are going to go hungry?!” Warren retorted.
