President Donald Trump questioned whether a “purge or revolution” is taking place in South Korea before claiming a U.S. military base was raided there ahead of his meeting with the country’s new president on Monday.

Trump is scheduled to meet with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the White House to discuss a trade deal proposed last month, which includes a focus on batteries and shipbuilding.

To commemorate the deal, South Korea sent baseball caps with U.S. and South Korean flags with the slogan, “Make America Shipbuilding Great Again,” or MASGA, according to the Wall Street Journal.

But hours before the meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Trump posted on Truth Social: “WHAT IS GOING ON IN SOUTH KOREA? Seems like a Purge or Revolution. We can’t have that and do business there. I am seeing the new President today at the White House. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!”

When asked to elaborate on the post in the Oval Office later Monday, Trump said: “Well, I heard there are raids on churches over the last few days. Very vicious raids on churches by the new government in South Korea. That they even went into our military base and got information. They probably shouldn’t have done that. But I heard bad things — I don’t know if it’s true or not — as you know, your new president is coming in a couple of hours coming here. I look forward to meeting him.”

“We won’t stand for that,” he added. “We just won’t stand for that.”

Lee took office during a time of intense political upheaval in the country. Lee’s predecessor, Yoon Suk Yeol, put South Korea under martial law and was ultimately removed from office in April.
