White House Spox Peppered with Questions About Joe Biden Fall Aboard Air Force One: ‘I Almost Fell Myself’
White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was peppered with questions about President Joe Biden’s stumble and fall on the steps leading up to Air Force One minutes after the event happened.
In a moment that fell short of a Chevy Chase pratfall, President Biden stumbled several times and fell on his way up the steps as he departed for Georgia Friday afternoon, drawing loads of attention and igniting a flame war between supporters and critics. The President then delivered a crisp salute at the door of the aircraft, appearing no worse for the wear.
And once aboard the plane, White House reporters lobbed questions about Biden’s mishap during an in-flight gaggle with Ms. Jean-Pierre.
“We saw the president take a fall on the stairs, is he doing okay?” asked one reporter.
“Well, it’s pretty windy outside, it’s very windy, I almost fell coming up the steps myself. He’s doing 100% fine,” Jean-Pierre replied.
Another reporter asked about the foot that the president fractured in November, and whether the injury had been aggravated in the fall.
“All I can tell you he’s doing fine, he’s preparing for the trip today, he is doing just fine,” Jean-Pierre said.
“Did he get checked out by the doctor?” asked a third reporter.
“All I know is, all I can tell you, is he’s doing fine, he’s doing great,” Jean-Pierre said.
