Dave Smith Hurls Gay Slur in Chaotic Debate Over Gaza With Alex Berenson
A debate between comedian Dave Smith and former New York Times writer Alex Berenson was quickly reduced into the two men insulting one another.
On Friday, Smith and Berenson appeared on Zero Hedge’s YouTube channel for a live debate on the conflict in Gaza. Roughly 20 minutes into what turned out to be a two-hour debate, their back-and-forth devolved into heated name-calling. Smith even used a gay slur at one point.
It started when Smith quoted Berenson’s previous comments on aid being allowed into Gaza. When Berenson pointed out that those comments were over a year old — when the post-October 7 conflict was still relatively new — Smith was livid:
SMITH: Dude, you just went back 10 years to a joke I made with Richard Spencer. I’m sorry, you only advocated for the genocide at the beginning; but now that the policy is coming due, you’re getting off the sunken ship because there’s, like, babies starving and stuff. So, you don’t really want to be a part of that, but you do want to smear everybody else.
BERENSON: No, I want Israel to–
SMITH: Shut up.
BERENSON: No, you shut up! You shut up, my little man!
SMITH: “Little man.” OK, Alex. You talk you talk a big game over fucking Zoom, f*ggot. Anyway, here’s what I’m saying.
BERENSON: You don’t scare me. You’re a little bitch from Brooklyn!
Moderator Rav Arora reined the men in and discouraged the use of insults, saying it “feels a little bit like high school.”
