‘Mini Dictators’: Comic Dave Smith Says Covid ‘Lockdown Governors’ Should Be on Trial at The Hague
Comedian Dave Smith said governors who imposed pandemic lockdowns should face trial at the International Criminal Court.
Speaking on the Keeping It Real Podcast with Jillian Michaels, Smith criticized state leaders for issuing emergency orders during the pandemic that restricted religious gatherings and other activities.
Smith said:
All the lockdown governors are, are just, you know, should be in the Hague. Like, you don’t, I don’t care. I don’t care if there was a vote. You don’t get to appoint yourself mini dictators out of nowhere based off, based off no authority, not even citing any authority. I declared an emergency. So what, like the Constitution and the Bill of Rights don’t exist anymore. Because you declared?
Smith referenced an April 2020 interview between then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson and Democratic New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, who had implemented strict lockdown policies early in the pandemic.
The comic criticized Murphy’s justification for the lockdowns as well as mocking the Carlson interview, in which Murphy said he did not think about civil liberties when issuing lockdown orders.
Carlson said, “I’m reading the First Amendment here” before he asked Murphy, “Where do you get the authority to tell someone they can’t do that?”
The governor replied that the Bill of Rights was above his “pay grade.”
“By what authority did you nullify the Bill of Rights in issuing this order?” Carlson asked. “How do you have the power to do that?”
“That’s above my pay grade, Tucker,” Murphy said. “So, I wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this. We went to all — first of all, we went to the scientists who said people have to stay away from each other.”
Smith is a frequent guest on political and comedy podcasts and appears regularly on The Joe Rogan Experience.
