Steve Bannon Calls Out ‘Feckless’ Republicans for ‘Hiding’ From Democrats On Trump Budget Bill: ‘Offense! Offense! Offense!’
Steve Bannon was not pleased with Republicans on Wednesday as he watched Democrats blast President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” on the House floor.
On his War Room podcast, Bannon was shocked to see Democratic lawmakers outnumbering Republicans on the House floor on Wednesday. Bannon argued Republican lawmakers should be pitching Trump’s budget bill as economic “growth” legislation against Democrats sounding the alarm on the bill’s federal cuts. The president similarly pushed Republicans to sell the “growth” aspects of his bill, claiming newly-announced investments in the US and money from tariffs will offset more debt.
The budget bill passed through the Senate on Tuesday and now faces a vote in the House. It has faced some opposition from Republicans like Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who have argued against the bill’s deficit spending and the raising of the debt ceiling.
“They have no Republicans over there,” Bannon said, watching Democrats in the House. “How can that possibly be? Right now, you’re seeing the 2026 — this is the midterms. You’re hearing it all right here.”
Trump has set a goal of passing the budget bill by July 4. On Wednesday, Democratic lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) railed against Trump’s megabill, arguing it provides tax breaks to billionaires and increases the national debt. Ocasio-Cortez described it as a “deal with the devil.”
“You should be up firing back on these Democrats. They got their pitch down. I wanted you to hear the pitch. I know it upset many of you, and it’s going to upset many of you because this is what you’re going to hear through election day of 2026. The Republicans have got to stand up and defend this,” Bannon said on Wednesday. “If it’s gonna get voted down on the rule, it’s going to get voted down on the rule. But right now, we’re seeing these are feckless Republicans. You’ve got to step up, step into the plate.”
Some Republicans spoke in favor of the bill, including Rep. Mark Alford (R-TX) who spoke next to a poster of Trump with fireworks and the American flag. The poster encouraged the passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
“Cult much?” Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) asked, mocking the poster.
Bannon warned Republicans they “can’t just hide there,” and argued that simply defending cuts Democrats point out is not enough.
“They’re caught into this cycle of defending these cuts that they’re making. It’s not gonna work,” he said. “Need to go on offense, offense, offense, offense! If President Trump taught you anything, you should have learned that lesson.”
