Steve Bannon Warns Resigning X CEO ‘You Can Run, Baby, But You Can’t Hide’ Amid Trump-Musk War
Steve Bannon issued an ominous warning to outgoing X CEO Linda Yaccarino as tensions continue to escalate between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
Yaccarino announced on Wednesday that she is stepping down as CEO of X after two years.
She called her time with the social media platform under Musk’s ownership “incredible” and said she’d continue “cheering” it on, but her resignation comes one day after controversy erupted over X’s AI assistant Grok praising Hitler, making anti-Semitic statements, and even giving step-by-step directions on how to rape former Democratic Party politician Will Stancil.
While covering the news of Yaccarino’s resignation on his WarRoom podcast, Bannon laid into the CEO, calling X a “scam” and telling her, “You can run, baby, but you can’t hide.”
“Hey Linda, you can run, baby, but you can’t hide. You’re not gonna hide from the lawsuits, girl. We know why you’re stepping down and why you’re running,” Bannon said.
The former advisor to Trump then referred to Musk as “Elmo” and argued Yaccarino is resigning because she can’t keep the billionaire under control.
“We understand why you are stepping down and why you’re running. That Elmo’s out of control. Sorry, baby, that came with the job. You took the job, you took the pay, you took the warrants, you took the stock options, you took all the hundreds of millions of dollars you’re going to make,” he said. “No, if you can’t keep Elmo in the nursery and keep him under control, you’re gonna pay a price. You are gonna pay price. It doesn’t matter that you’re resigning today, baby. The whole scam over there, the whole complete scam of Elmo is going to be taken apart brick by brick, okay?”
Bannon and Musk have traded personal insults in the past, with Musk even accusing Bannon of being in the “Epstein files,” an accusation he also threw at Trump after their war of words kicked off.
After working closely with Trump as a campaign supporter and then a special government employee with DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), Musk and Trump’s relationship soured. Musk called out Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill over its spending and raising the debt ceiling, while Trump said he was “disappointed” in the billionaire. Musk has since said he’s creating a third political party in the wake of his falling out with the president. Trump brushed the threat off, insisting it will only “help” him.
