Tucker Carlson Confronts NYT Public Editor Over the Times’ Anti-Trump ‘Advocacy’
Fox News’ Tucker Carlson invited New York Times public editor Liz Spayd onto his show tonight and confronted her about what he called anti-Donald Trump “advocacy” from the Times.
Spayd, who recently reflected on how campaign coverage could have been overall better, acknowledged the problem of liberal bias in mainstream media. Carlson highlighted some “pretty aggressively anti-Trump” headlines from today’s edition of the Times, suggesting that “this seems like more of the same.”
Spayd defended the journalistic standards of the reporters at the times, but Carlson pointed to some of what Times reporters have tweeted about Trump. There Spayd agreed with Carlson and expressed some concern, telling him, “If you sign up to be a journalist, then that’s what you oughta be.”
Carlson told her that it “undermines the business model” of the paper to appear so one-sided, telling him that this is precisely the reason why people don’t trust the media and are turning to alternative online outlets.
Spayd challenged Carlson on the partiality of Fox News while still acknowledging, “Why would you cut off half of America and make them feel like this is not their New York Times?”
