SF Giants Announcer Suggests Fans Partake in ‘Cocktails and Gummies’ to Celebrate the Rare Dodgers Loss
The Los Angeles Dodgers lose so infrequently that when they do, San Francisco Giants announcer Duane Kuiper wants their rival fanbase feeling real good about celebrating.
Dodgers vs Giants is a battle of heavyweights in Major League Baseball’s NL West division, with both teams on the verge of notching 100-win seasons. Although the Giants have a slim lead over their West Coast rival, the surprising team from San Francisco is struggling to gain ground as the Dodgers stay equally hot.
When L.A. posted a loss on Wednesday, the Giants TV broadcasters acknowledged the rarity and offered a few suggestions to fans who might be feeling the pressure that comes with their playoff race.
“You said it about a month ago. Just have it in your mind that the Dodgers are never going to lose,” analyst Mike Krukow said during the Giants game broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area.
“Be happy,” Kuiper responded, referring to the Dodgers’ recent loss. “Enjoy it, have a cocktail, celebrate with some popcorn. Have a gummy, whatever! Just enjoy it,” the team’s longtime play-by-play voice continued with a chuckle.
While both teams are destined for the postseason, the NL West winner will receive home-field advantage and an automatic bid to the Division Series. The second-place team will be forced to play a nail-biting one-game playoff against the league’s other Wild Card winner, a high-pressured contest that will surely have fans reaching for gummies.
