WATCH: Father of NY Yankees Infielder Anthony Volpe Gets Into It With Mets Fan During Subway Series

The father of New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was caught on video jawing at Mets fans in the stands over the weekend.
In the video, Volpe’s father could first be seen yelling, “Let’s go,” in the direction of a Mets fan who was several rows ahead of him. The fan stood up and faced Volpe’s father. Though the fan’s initial words couldn’t be made out, his gestures indicated he was arguing right back.
Then, Volpe’s father said, “Bad-mouthing my son, fuck you!” He was held back by someone who was presumably another member of the family as he repeated, “Fuck you” to the Mets fan.
The fan then mockingly said, “Your son’s the best.”
“Fuck you!” Volpe’s father responded. “Bad-mouthing my son? Scumbag! Fucking scumbag!”
The video ended seconds later as it was revealed the altercation was happening in the middle of the seventh inning stretch. Everyone around them began to rise for the singing of “God Bless America.”
While it wasn’t immediately apparent what the fan said to enrage Volpe’s father, it’s safe to assume the third-year shortstop’s recent struggles had something to do with it. After batting .293 in his second full season in 2024, Volpe was hitting just .219 at the time of writing. In the field, Volpe was responsible for 11 errors in just 89 games — on pace to top 2024’s total of 16 errors in 160 games.
