WATCH: Golf Channel Host Perfectly Recreates Bryson DeChambeau’s Winning Bunker Shot at U.S. Open — And DeChambeau Hands Him Trophy For It

Bryson DeChambeau was so impressed by PGA Tour pro and Golf Channel host Johnson Wagner recreating his bunker shot to win the U.S. Open that he actually handed him his trophy.

This year’s U.S. Open came down to the 18th hole of the final round as DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy were separated by a single stroke. McIlroy actually led late in the round before missing multiple short putts to bogey on three of the last four holes. The misses gave DeChambeau a one-stroke lead heading into the 18th hole.

Forced to shoot from the bunker, DeChambeau managed to put the ball just feet away from the hole. A successful putt on the next shot secured the tournament win for him.

Hours later, Wagner tried to recreate the shot during Golf Channel’s post-tournament coverage. After an unsuccessful first attempt, he turned around and was surprised to see DeChambeau — still holding the trophy — approaching him to shake his hand. DeChambeau was handed a microphone to break down Wagner’s shot.

“Did you blade it over?” DeChambeau asked him.

“I was worried about hitting a window,” Wagner responded.

DeChambeau then urged him to try again, and the two talked about the actual tournament shot before Wagner got ready to try again.

On his second attempt, Wagner – like DeChambeau — was only a few feet from the hole.

As DeChambeau and Wagner celebrated, Wagner asked if he could hold the trophy.

“You got it!” DeChambeau said as he handed it over.

Wagner immediately threw his club to the ground to pose with the U.S. Open trophy.

“I guess I’m never gonna win the U.S. Open now since I touched it,” he joked.
