WATCH: Jeopardy Contestants Try and Fail to Answer Sports Questions
Contestants of the iconic game show Jeopardy! had a tough time Wednesday night answering a number of somewhat obvious sports questions.
On Wednesday’s episode, a contestant named Sarah chose the $600 question — the third-most challenging question — from the category “Sporty Stuff.” For that question, she was tasked with identifying the type of kick a swimmer does when performing a butterfly stroke. Without hesitation, she correctly identified it as a dolphin kick.
The $800 question, however, was a struggle. A photo of women’s basketball star Paige Bueckers was shown on-screen. Asked to guess who it was, a contestant named Rahul said, “Caitlin Clark.” Neither Sarah nor the third contestant, Scott, could come up with a guess.
For the toughest “Sporty Stuff” question worth $1,000, Scott correctly guessed the name of a figure skating jump named after Norwegian figure skater Axel Paulsen.
Although that was final question of the category, they weren’t done with sports. Under the category “Numbers, Please,” the $600 question had contestants guess the value of a safety in American football.
“What is three?” Scott guessed.
That, of course, was incorrect.
“What is one?” Rahul said.
Again, they were just off.
Finally, Sarah decided to just pick the number between their guesses.
“What is two?” she correctly guessed.
Jeopardy! contestants struggling with sports questions isn’t a new phenomenon. Late host Alex Trebek famously mocked his own guests for not being able to answer a single football question during one episode.
