Longtime New York Yankees announcer Michael Kay came to the defense of manager Aaron Boone with an unexpected analogy about orgies.

On Monday — when the Yankees had the night off — Boone was spotted at the University of North Carolina to see coach Bill Belichick’s debut with the Tar Heels.

In addition, Boone’s son Brandon is a student assistant on the UNC football staff, New York Daily News beat writer Greg Joyce posted on X.

But online, some Yankees fans took exception to Boone taking in a college football while the Bronx Bombers were preparing for their most significant stretch of games heading into the end of the season.

The next day on The Michael Kay Show, the titular host offered an interesting counter-argument to those who felt Boone should’ve been in his hotel preparing for the Yankees’ next opponent:

It’s unbelievable. Listen, if you don’t think he’s a good manager, OK, then don’t think he’s a good manager; but when you’re gonna try to start little fights about nonsense like this — that he went to see his son in his first “coaching” job with North Carolina — I’m sorry, I don’t have a problem with it.

And I’ve always said that about players, too. You know, when players are out, “Oh, they should be back in the hotel room.” OK, what if they’re having an orgy in their hotel room? Is that OK? You wouldn’t know about it. So they go out to dinner with people, or having fun with people outside, well, that angers you because there’s a game the next day; but if they were in the hotel room, and they set up a trapeze, and there were people flying through the air having an orgy, you wouldn’t know about it but you’d be fine?

The things that people get upset about, it’s just beyond me. It is absolutely beyond me.
