‘A Middle Finger to the American People!’ MSNBC’s Elise Jordan Trashes GOP Over Failure to Resolve Speaker Fight
MSNBC political analysis Elise Jordan called the House GOP’s inability to elect a speaker a “middle finger to American people” after Jim Jordan pulled out.
The Ohio lawmaker lost a secret ballot held at a House GOP conference meeting on Friday after he lost his third House floor vote for speaker. It is uncertain who the Republican majority will nominate to lead the chamber.
In recent weeks, the House has not had a speaker after Rep. Kevin McCarthy was ousted because eight Republicans sided with Democrats to vacate the speaker. The motion was originally brought forward by Republican firebrand Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
Elise Jordan joined host Chris Jansing on Friday to react to the latest news unfolding on Capitol Hill.
“Right now there is no consensus candidate. It’s that simple,” Jordan told the MSNBC host. “All bets are off. And you look at this weekend, it really is so galling and just a middle finger to the American people that they couldn’t stay and work it out and work over the weekend when there are so many pressing issues.”
Since the House does not have a speaker, the chamber has been unable to pass a resolution giving aide to Israel amid their war with Hamas or give additional supplies to Ukraine as they battle with Russia.
Jordan then claimed that Republican lawmakers privately disapprove of former President Donald Trump and the chaos unfolding on the Hill but are not able to speak about it publicly out of fear.
“They’re too scared. And why are they scared? Well, we saw just over the past 24 hours when the Republican lawmakers who opposed Jim Jordan candidacy, they got death threats to their house,” Jordan added.
“Extremism has taken over in the Republican Party. And we saw that today in the and we see it in this chaos that we can’t have a speaker of the House,” she concluded.
