Anthony Scaramucci Says Musk Is in ‘A Perilous Situation’ With Trump, Who ‘Doesn’t Like’ All the Attention Tesla CEO Gets

Anthony Scaramucci, who briefly served as White House communications director in President-elect Donald Trump’s first term, said Elon Musk is tempting fate these days.

Musk has been a near-constant presence at Trump’s side since last month’s election. The billionaire owner of X and CEO of Tesla spent $277 million to get Trump elected. As a reward, Trump designated Musk as a co-chair of the “Department of Government Efficiency,” a yet-to-be-defined advisory commission so named because its acronym is also the name of a nearly worthless meme coin Musk has promoted.

Trump has hosted Musk multiple times at Mar-a-Lago over the last several weeks. Musk’s influence reached new levels last week when he publicly opposed a continuing resolution that would avoid a government shutdown and fund the government until March. The president-elect followed suit and House Republicans withdrew the bill. The episode prompted Trump’s critics to dub Musk the real president or a co-president.

Scaramucci appeared on Monday’s edition of The Situation Room on CNN, where Wolf Blitzer played a clip of Trump on Sunday stating, “You know why [Musk] can’t be [president]? He wasn’t born in this country.”

“Do you see their relationship turning sour anytime soon?” the host inquired.

“Well, he doesn’t like it,” Scaramucci replied. “But I think what’s happening is he also knows that a lot of the stuff coming from the left is premeditated. And so, that’s what’s shielding him for right now.”

Scaramucci said increased media coverage of Musk makes the billionaire an alluring scapegoat under certain circumstances.

“If there’s a problem, he’ll look to blame Elon or somebody else on his team,” he said. “So, you know, it’s a perilous situation. There’s a honeymoon period going on right now. But trust me, he doesn’t like it. He wouldn’t be bringing it up. If it didn’t bother him, Wolf, he wouldn’t be bringing it up.”
