Bill O’Reilly Tries To Attack Biden’s Record on Epstein Before He’s Brutally Owned by Actual Facts: ‘How Do You Convict a Guy Who’s Dead?’
NewsNation anchor Leland Vittert derailed Bill O’Reilly with a brutal on-air fact-check Monday night as he attempted to attack the Biden administration over the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Appearing on On Balance with Vittert, the former Fox News anchor insisted that Epstein had been “convicted under Merrick Garland’s Justice Department,” referencing former President Joe Biden’s attorney general and implying the Biden administration bears responsibility for the lack of action on the case.
O’Reilly was rounding on Minority House Leader Hakeem Jeffries as a “top phony,” arguing that the lawmaker’s criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files was hypocritical.
“Hold on! Bill! Hold on! You said Epstein was convicted during the Biden administration. Epstein committed suicide during the Trump administration,” Vittert cut in.
“Yeah, so?” O’Reilly replied.
“How do you convict a guy who’s dead?” the host asked.
“He was convicted, I believe, under Merrick Garland’s Justice Department. Am I wrong on that? I don’t think so. Then he was incarcerated, then he committed suicide,” O’Reilly asked.
As O’Reilly continued to make his point, Vittert interrupted: “Bill, I think this is important. He was arrested in 2019, and he committed suicide in 2019, he died August 10th of 2019. So the Biden administration was not involved in a conviction or trial of him. They were in that of his madam, Ghislaine Maxwell.”
“And that’s a good point of clarification, but he was arrested and indicted under Merrick Garland,” O’Reilly repeated.
“No! Under Trump! Under Trump!” Vittert fired back.
“No!” O’Reilly bristled.
“Epstein was arrested, indicted, and committed suicide under Trump. In 2019, Trump was president, Merrick Garland is not the attorney general,” Vittert said again.
“Okay, I stand corrected,” O’Reilly finally conceded. “That came in the first Trump administration, correct?”
“Yeah. Bill Barr was the attorney general. Bill Barr was the guy who ordered the investigation into the suspected suicide,” the host said.
