Blackish Star Anthony Anderson: ‘I Don’t Know Any Negro That’s Voting for Ben Carson’

There’s a certain strain of political “thought” that says black people only voted for Barack Obama in 2008 because he’s black, an idea that was pushed on both ends of the political spectrum, but Blackish star Anthony Anderson pushed back against that notion this week. In an interview with Late Night host Seth Meyers, Anderson said he didn’t know who he will be voting for this cycle, but he knows who he won’t be voting for: “The black guy.”

A lot of people said that I and a lot of the people in the African American community only voted for Barack Obama because he was black. That theory does not hold any weight, because I don’t know any negro that’s voting for Ben Carson. I mean, his wife isn’t even voting for him, I saw her with a “Go Hillary” button on the other day.

Once a top contender, Dr. Ben Carson has slipped to the bottom of the pack in the Republican primary race.

The fallacy that Anderson describes is also belied by the fact that black voters failed to rally to other black presidential candidates like Alan Keyes and Herman Cain, but that doesn’t stop people from repeating it.
