Bob Costas: We Need to Quit the ‘Politically Correct BS’ About Sterling
Bob Costas sat down with MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki over the weekend to discuss the intersection of sports and politics, and in talking about the Donald Sterling saga, Costas bemoaned all the “politically correct BS” that emerged in the wake of his racist rantings.
Costas addressed past issues he’s dealt with, like his Olympic commentary during the Sochi game or his past remarks about the Redskins controversy, and Costas said people generally have no problem with him getting a tad bit opinionated as long as they agree with what he’s saying.
But on the Sterling fracas, Costas said there’s no one on the other side of this issue, and so making him the center of a conversation on race is a waste of time.
“When people say, ‘Well, this is an opportunity to open up a dialogue on race,’ here is where I think some people who work in this building ought to step up and say, ‘That’s a bunch of politically correct BS.'”
He said the real conversation is about how much race relations have improved in the past few decades.
