Boehner: Benghazi Investigation Not an Attempt to Hurt Hillary

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) assured Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that continued investigations into the 2012 Benghazi attack are not part of an effort to undermine former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s potential 2016 president campaign.

Boehner outright dismissed the idea, and said Rep. Trey Gowdy‘s (R-SC) only objective as chair of the Benghazi Select Committee is to “get the American people the facts about what happened.” Boehner also said he told Gowdy that he “doesn’t need a big show here,” and is only interested in the truth about what happened.

When asked whether Hillary Clinton is essential to that objective, Boehner said she was never interview by the Accountability Review Board shortly after the attack.

“If she’s got facts that she can supply, we need to know them,” he said, adding it is up to Gowdy to decide whether to call Clinton to testify. “But if he believes that’s necessary to get to the truth, so be it.”
