Bret Baier Downplays Russian Hacking Effort: ‘This Is Not a Huge Example’ of ‘Interference’

Fox News anchor Bret Baier appeared during the 2:00 PM hour to discuss the latest news regarding President Joe Biden’s administration formally accusing Russia of trying to interfere in American elections.

When asked by fellow Fox anchor John Roberts about his thoughts on the statement provided earlier by Attorney General Merrick Garland, Baier seemed to downplay the scope of the widespread “Doppelganger” operation that was undertaken by Russian hackers to influence American voters by spreading disinformation on social media:

You look at the specifics here, $10 million, by this Russian group. You know, in the big picture, there are plenty of actors, online and social media who are spending much, much more than that to influence a lot of people across social media. And I think this was a public face forward to say we’re not going to put up with countries interfering. But as far as examples, this is not a huge example of some interference that has happened.

On Wednesday, the Department of Justice announced that it indicted two Russian nationals on charges related to the hacking operation and it took control of “more than two dozen internet domains used in a foreign malign influence campaign, allegedly directed by the Russian government, officials said.”
