Charles Krauthammer: Do We Really Believe Comey Was Fired Because He Damaged Hillary in July?

When big political news breaks — like today’s bombshell of President Donald Trump‘s firing of FBI Director James Comey — it’s instructive to seek the insights from a variety of thought-leaders on both sides of the aisle to gain clarity and context. Fox News’ Charles Krauthammer is a lion of the conservative movement, and though he hasn’t always been a supporter of Donald Trump, it’s fair to say that he is much happier with this administration than the previous one.

So, how did Mr. Krauthammer react to the news of Comey’s firing? Fair to say that he was caught off guard. He said the reasons provided by Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein were “highly implausible,” adding that “to fire him summarily with no warning in the middle of may because of something that happened in July is almost inexplicable.” This is the reasoning provided for the firing provided in the letter which referenced unfair treatment of Trump’s then opponent Hillary Clinton.
