Chris Christie Reveals Which Candidate He Bet Money On to Win
Former New Jersey Governor and Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie revealed which of the two major party presidential candidates he bet money on to win on Tuesday during an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.
After observing that early voting numbers he looked at in Georgia “are not showing low propensity voters are coming out on either side at this moment,” and commenting that “that’s not good news for Trump or Harris,” Christie expressed his doubt the Republican nominee would accept the results of the election if he loses.
“In terms of Trump accepting the results of the election if he loses, George, I’d just ask Reince [Priebus], what’s the evidence that he will? He never has. And so all of a sudden now he’s going to get religion and accept them if he loses? I don’t think that’s the case,” he argued. “Now, I don’t think it’ll matter nearly as much as it did four years ago because he’s not the president. And so his influence on what will happen post-election is significantly less now than it was four years ago.”
“But you asked about conviction early on, and I realize I didn’t answer,” concluded Christie. “I bet about five bucks on Harris today. For a guy from New Jersey, that’s not a lot of conviction.”
Christie endorsed Trump relatively early in the 2016 Republican presidential primary after dropping out of the race himself and supported his 2020 reelection bid. In the years since, however, Christie has become an outspoken critic of Trump, taking special exception to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 contest between himself and Joe Biden.
