Chris Matthews Asks Guest: ‘You Think I’m On The Far Left, When Did That Start?’

Chris Matthews wanted to summarize the differences between President Obama’s plan to reduce the deficit versus the budget plan put forth by Republican Congressman Paul Ryan. The discussion was going along smoothly until Matthews became flabbergasted that one of his guests thought, for even a moment, that he was on the “far left” of the political spectrum.

Matthews began talking about the “two extreme views” of government, comparing Ayn Rand‘s philosophy to Marxism. When Matthews described the tenets of Marxism, The Wall Street Journal’s Stephen Moore asked “you don’t believe that?” Matthews responded in disbelief, “what do you think I’m on the far left, when did that start?” At the end of the conversation at least Moore had no confusion about where he is on the spectrum, proudly declaring “I love rich people.”
